## Quotes & Payment

### How do I get a quote for my scrap car?

Fill in the quote form with your registration, make, model and postcode, or call 0330 123 0112. Most quotes are confirmed the same working day, and the price we agree is the price you are paid on collection.

### How much is my scrap car worth?

Value depends on weight, age, condition, whether the engine runs, and current scrap metal prices. Small hatchbacks typically sit at the lower end, while larger 4x4s, vans and light commercials attract more because of the extra metal.

### Do you pay cash for scrap cars?

No. Cash payments for scrap vehicles are illegal in the UK under the Scrap Metal Dealers Act 2013. We pay by bank transfer, usually the same day the vehicle is collected.

### Are there any hidden fees?

None. Collection is free anywhere we cover in Scotland, there are no admin fees, and no deduction for DVLA paperwork.

### Will the price change when you arrive?

Only if the vehicle is materially different from what was described, for example missing an engine, gearbox or catalytic converter when the quote assumed they were present. Describe it accurately and the quote stands.

### How long is my scrap car quote valid for?

Seven days as standard. Scrap metal prices move week to week, so if you come back to us after that we will re-check the figure rather than quietly drop it on collection day.

### Do you price match other scrap car buyers?

Tell us the figure you have been offered and who by. If it is a genuine quote from a licensed Authorised Treatment Facility we will usually match or beat it, but we will not match an inflated online figure that gets cut at the kerbside.

### How soon does the money reach my bank?

The transfer is sent once the vehicle is loaded and the paperwork is signed. Faster Payments normally land within a couple of hours, and always the same working day for collections before 4pm.

## Collection

### Is collection really free?

Yes. Free collection is included across our coverage area, including the Central Belt, Fife, Tayside, Lothians, Ayrshire and the North East.

### How quickly can you collect?

Often same day or next day for the Central Belt and Fife. Rural and Highland collections are usually scheduled within a few working days to fit the transporter route.

### Do I need to be there when you collect?

Someone should be present to hand over the keys, V5C and sign the collection paperwork. If that is not possible, we can arrange a nominated contact in advance.

### Can you collect a car that does not start?

Yes. Our transporters are winch equipped, so non-runners, MOT failures, accident damage and insurance write-offs are all collected as standard.

### Can you collect from a multi-storey, tight lane or private land?

In most cases yes. Tell us about access when you book so we can send a van or a smaller transporter rather than a full-size beavertail.

### Can you collect at the weekend or in the evening?

We run Saturday collections across the Central Belt and Fife, and we can sometimes fit an early evening lift in summer. Ask when you book and we will tell you honestly what is available on your route.

### What happens if I need to rearrange the collection?

Just call the office. There is no rebooking fee and no cancellation charge, and your agreed price stays in place as long as the vehicle has not changed.

### Do you collect from the Highlands and Islands?

We cover the mainland Highlands on scheduled routes rather than one-off trips, so collection takes a few days longer. Island collections are quoted case by case depending on ferry access.

## Paperwork & Legal

### What documents do I need?

Ideally the V5C logbook and photo ID showing your name and address matching the payment account. We can still collect without a V5C, but ID is mandatory under scrap metal legislation.

### What if I have lost the V5C?

We can still take the vehicle. You should tell the DVLA the car has been scrapped, and we issue a Certificate of Destruction that confirms the disposal.

### What is a Certificate of Destruction?

A CoD is issued by an Authorised Treatment Facility and confirms the vehicle has been permanently destroyed. It ends your liability for tax, insurance and any future fines linked to the vehicle.

### Do I get a road tax refund?

Yes. Once the DVLA is notified, any full remaining months of vehicle tax are refunded automatically to the registered keeper.

### Are you licensed?

Yes. We operate as an Authorised Treatment Facility under SEPA licence WCR/R/1137358 and hold a scrap metal dealer licence.

### How do I tell the DVLA my car has been scrapped?

You do not need to. We notify the DVLA electronically as the Authorised Treatment Facility, and you receive written confirmation plus the Certificate of Destruction. If you prefer, you can also notify them yourself using the yellow section of the V5C.

### Can I keep my private registration?

Yes, but you must transfer or retain it with the DVLA before we collect. Once the vehicle is destroyed the plate cannot be recovered.

### What happens to my data when I sell you a car?

We keep only the records the Scrap Metal Dealers Act and the DVLA require, we do not sell your details on, and any personal data left in the vehicle is destroyed with it.

## Vehicles We Take

### What vehicles do you buy?

Cars, vans, 4x4s, light commercials, MOT failures, insurance write-offs, non-runners, accident damaged vehicles and end-of-life vehicles of any age.

### Do you take cars still on finance?

Not while outstanding finance is registered against the vehicle. Settle the agreement or get written release from the finance company first.

### Do you buy hybrid or electric vehicles?

Yes. We handle high-voltage battery packs through the correct depollution route, so EVs and hybrids are accepted.

### What happens to my car after collection?

It is depolluted at our Thornton facility, fluids and hazardous components are removed and recycled, reusable parts are recovered, and the shell is baled for metal recycling.

### Do you buy motorhomes and campervans?

Yes. Motorhomes, campervans and horseboxes are all handled, though we may need extra access details because of the height and length before we can send the right transporter.

### Can I remove parts before you collect?

Tell us first. Stripping the catalytic converter, battery, wheels or engine changes what the vehicle is worth, so the quote has to be adjusted before collection rather than argued about on the day.

### Do you buy insurance write-off categories S and N?

Yes. Category S and N write-offs are bought and processed normally, and we will still issue a Certificate of Destruction so the vehicle can never return to the road under your name.
