How long does the whole process take from quote to payment?

For most Central Belt and Fife collections it is 24 to 48 hours end to end: quote confirmed the same working day, collection booked for the next available slot, and payment sent by bank transfer while the driver is still with you.

What happens on the day of collection?

The driver calls ahead, checks the vehicle matches the description, takes your V5C and photo ID, has you sign the collection note, winches the car onto the transporter and confirms the bank transfer before leaving.

Do I need to prepare the car in any way?

Clear personal belongings from the cabin and boot, hand over both sets of keys and the locking wheel nut, transfer any private plate beforehand, and make sure there is clear space around the vehicle for the winch.

Can I track where my vehicle goes afterwards?

Yes. Every vehicle goes to our own Authorised Treatment Facility at Thornton under SEPA licence WCR/R/1137358, and the Certificate of Destruction we issue records the date and site of destruction.

What if the driver arrives and the car is not as described?

We tell you before anything is loaded and explain exactly what has changed the value, for example a missing catalytic converter or engine. You are free to decline and there is no charge for the wasted visit.

Is there anything I still need to do after collection?

Cancel your insurance and any tax direct debit. We handle the DVLA notification, and your tax refund for full remaining months is issued automatically to the registered keeper.

Payment goes out by bank transfer once the vehicle is loaded and the paperwork is signed. No cash, because cash for scrap is illegal in the UK.

5. DVLA notified

We notify the DVLA and issue your Certificate of Destruction, ending your liability for tax, insurance and fines. Any full months of tax are refunded to you.

6. Depolluted and recycled

At our Thornton facility the vehicle is depolluted, fluids and hazardous parts are removed, reusable components are recovered and the shell is baled for metal recycling.
