Cupar and the north Fife villages sit fourteen miles up the A92 and A91 from our yard, close enough that farm and rural collections here are routine rather than a special trip.
Scrap A Car Scotland collects scrap cars, vans and MOT failures in Cupar free of charge, pays by same-day bank transfer and handles all DVLA paperwork including the Certificate of Destruction. Cupar is 14 miles from our licensed facility in Thornton, Fife, and collection is usually next working day. The price we quote is the price we pay: no admin fees, no collection charges and no deductions on the day.
A lot of north Fife vehicles come off farms and smallholdings. Tractors aside, we take pickups, 4x4s and vans on the same weight and parts basis as cars, and the recovery unit handles soft ground and steading access.
Cupar is reached in twenty minutes up the A92 and A91. Because north Fife falls inside our own backyard, we route single collections there rather than waiting to fill a truck, which is why booking-to-collection is usually a day.
North Fife work skews rural: farm runabouts, elderly 4x4s, pickups that have spent a decade on tracks, and second cars in villages where the nearest garage is miles away. Structural corrosion is the usual MOT killer.
Telling us where the vehicle actually sits is the single biggest thing that stops a wasted visit. These are the situations we deal with most often locally:

Scrap prices move with the metals market, so we will not publish a fixed figure that is wrong by next week. What we can tell you is how a Cupar vehicle is valued: weight of the shell, the parts still worth recovering, and the transport cost of getting it the 14 miles back to our Fife facility. Give us the registration and we price it properly on the call.
| Vehicle type | Typical examples | How it affects your quote |
|---|---|---|
| Small hatchback | Corsa, Fiesta, Polo, Aygo | Lightest shells, value driven mainly by reusable parts |
| Family saloon / estate | Focus, Astra, Golf, Mondeo | The most common vehicle we buy in Scotland |
| 4x4 and SUV | Qashqai, Freelander, X-Trail, Discovery | Heavier shells and catalysts, usually the strongest prices |
| Van and light commercial | Transit, Vivaro, Sprinter, Berlingo | Priced on weight the same as cars, no commercial surcharge |
| MOT failure or non-runner | Any make, any age | No deduction for not starting, moving or being roadworthy |
Your car leaves Cupar on our own transporter and goes straight to the Authorised Treatment Facility at Strathore Road, Thornton, Fife KY1 4DF. It is never left with a third party or resold as a runner.
Fuel, oil, coolant, brake fluid and refrigerant are drained and disposed of under our SEPA waste carrier licence WCR/R/1137358. Reusable parts are recovered and the shell is baled for steel recycling - typically over 95% of the vehicle by weight is recovered.
We notify the DVLA the same day and issue your Certificate of Destruction. That is the document that legally ends your responsibility for the vehicle, including tax, insurance and any future penalty notices.
Payment is made by transfer on the day of collection. Cash payment for scrap metal has been illegal in Scotland since 2016 - anyone offering it is not operating within the law.
The same trucks, drivers and paperwork every time - here is the kit that turns up when you book a scrap car collection in Cupar.

Our Cupar transporter covers the surrounding towns on the same route, so if the vehicle is not actually in Cupar you are still very likely inside our free collection area. Pick the closest town for local postcodes, timings and access notes.
Yes, and we do it weekly across north Fife. The 4x4-capable recovery unit handles steadings, soft ground and rough tracks. Let us know the ground conditions and we will pick a dry-ish day rather than churning up your field.
Yes - Ladybank, Springfield, Auchtermuchty, Freuchie, Ceres and Pitscottie are all on the same run at the same free collection basis.
Yes. Structural rot is the most common MOT failure in north Fife and it does not reduce a scrap offer. We value the shell by weight and the engine, gearbox, wheels and electricals as reusable parts.
Yes. Heavier vehicles usually pay more, not less, because there is more recoverable metal. Give us the make, model and rough condition and we will quote on that.
Yes. Collection anywhere in Cupar and the surrounding Fife area is free, and there is no admin charge deducted from your quote. The price we agree on the phone is the price you are paid.
Cupar is about 14 miles from our licensed yard at Thornton in Fife, and collection is usually next working day once you accept the quote.
Yes. We buy running and non-running vehicles, MOT failures, accident damage, insurance write-offs and long-term SORN cars. The vehicle does not need to start or move.
Same day, by bank transfer, on collection. We never pay cash - that has been illegal for scrap metal in Scotland since 2016, so any dealer offering cash for your car is not operating legally.
Bring the V5C logbook and photo ID. We complete the DVLA notification and issue you a Certificate of Destruction from the Authorised Treatment Facility, so the vehicle is legally off your name.
We can still buy it. You need photo ID and proof of address matching the registered keeper, and we notify the DVLA on your behalf. Never sell to anyone in Cupar who says paperwork does not matter - if the vehicle is not properly notified it stays your legal responsibility.
Yes. Our recovery units winch vehicles with flat tyres, seized brakes, dead batteries or no keys. Just tell us when you book so the right truck is sent to Cupar rather than a standard transporter.
Someone over 18 needs to be present to hand over the V5C and ID, but it does not have to be you. If you have already left Cupar, we can arrange it with a nominated person and still pay the registered keeper by transfer.
No. There is no cancellation fee and no call-out charge. If your plans change before the truck leaves for Cupar, tell us and we will rebook or cancel with nothing to pay.
Yes. Once we notify the DVLA, any full remaining months of vehicle tax are refunded automatically to the registered keeper, and any direct debit is cancelled at the same time.
Yes. Cars, vans, pickups, 4x4s, light commercials, motorhomes, hybrids and electric vehicles are all collected on the same free basis across Cupar.
